YUS! Update :D

This is like those "How to..." books that expect you to copy something and learn it in 20 minutes.
I am not sure you can learn much by glancing at a bunch of soldiers through a window...

How to draw manga.
That uses copyrighted images and vague descriptions.
You only really learn to trace the pictures.

Good luck to her though :D

When I was little I had a couple books 'how to draw mickey mouse' and 'how to draw bugs bunny'. The steps were reasonable enough, but they made zero sense to me at that age, draw a circle, draw a line down the middle of the circle, mark out where the ears go.... What? I just want to draw Mickey Mouse!
I would skip straight to the final result and try to copy that out, with very unsuccessful results.
One day I grabbed my notebook I drew in, and found a bunch of well drawn Bugs's and Mickey's, "how the hell did those get in there?" Turned out my Mum had seen my poor attempts and tried her own without telling me. "But they look spot on" Yeah, that tends to happen when you read the reasons for circles and the guidelines and don't assume they're just gibberish.
The whole guideline thing still never made complete sense until I was taught it hands-on in an animation course.

Thanks! You know more after all.

I am coming from the fact that a lot of people say that these books only teach you how to copy something existing while if you actually want to draw, you look for completely different sources or just school.
And a lot of these books pass as something that is supposedly going to teach you.

Quite a few programming books work the same way.

But yeah, what do I know :D

I agree with you, I was just reminded of that story.
